Scenes from a mid-day walk to the Pantheon, with stops in the Jewish Ghetto, Campi di Fiori, and Isola Tebirina. And, yes, that is the beaver-sized rat, the so-called Italian Capybara, that we saw swimming in the Tiber.
A perfect day
Hung out in the morning and worked. At 2 pm Charlie and I walked along the Tiber and through the Jewish Ghetto to the Pantheon, about 40 minutes away, with a stop for a prosciutto sandwich. We hung out at the Pantheon for a bit, found a great gelateria where Charlie enjoyed – really enjoyed – a dark chocolate gelato. Things about Italy that are different from California
As observed by Charlie and me In restaurants You pay for water – typically 3€ – and it often is delivered whether you ask for it or not (happened again tonight – full bottle, we didn’t drink a sip but bought it). Flavio Al Velavevodetto. At the recommendation of Conde Naste, enjoyed our first real meal in Rome. Rigatoni alla matriciana, cotolette d’abbacchio panate e fritte con contorno (rabbit), and broccoletti di rape ripassate in padella. Delicious traditional Roman cuisine. Great value at 40€ (including wine, bread and service). Lovely Italian waitress who spoke excellent English. All Italians.
